Watch your words: all eyes on Home Theatre Nalme Nachiyar Artists are often considered a restless lot, used to ideating, experimenting, creating and presenting their work to the audience regularly. So when the lockdown forced people indoors, the arts scene took a massive hit. Concerts cancelled, galleries shut, performances and stage shows put indefinitely on hold. The film and TV industry too came to a grinding halt, leaving thousands of daily wage workers without any income. But in midst of this crisis, the more fortunate members of the arts and entertainment fraternity also saw an opportunity to adapt to newer mediums and forms of expression. For actor and theatreperson P D Sathish, or PD as he is better known, it came together in the form of Home Theatre, a video book series. A first-of-its-kind initiative in the country, the project has brought together popular names from the Kannada TV, film, theatre and literature scene. “When Covid-19 struck, all our plays got cancelle...

Arjun Kamath , spoke to me over the phone and explained his "Anxiety Series" to me, I was wondering how this boy can pull off a message so important in words and a photograph, he answered me well, take a read... Back home, dog-tired Shilom stands by his bed. A cursory glance at his phone reveals No messages, No calls . Was he well-dressed that night? Was his shirt too tight? Did he eat too much? He sinks into bed, chest heavy . ’It’s not about looks’, his friends would chirp ’You look handsome’, his mother assured But he grew up chubby, Treated with disdain, Faced with unrelenting scrutiny. He ploughed through insults Day, After day . Tears welling in the dark, Plump face lit by the phone screen, No notifications from her The darkness now his blanket of protection . ’Have you looked at yourself?’ a kooky voice summons. He bolts upright, jostled, Surrounded by skinny mannequins ’Overgrown numbskull!’ Shilom’s eyes widen His bedroom spins, wa...

I saw the Joker... these are my notes... Jokers 1. I love Jack Nicholson he is my favorite, he is the quintessential comic book Joker, his makeup, gags, weapons & the purple suit, with the perfect Joker laugh. He was fearless & crazy AF.  He for me still makes all other jokers very silly and lame.  He made Joker look the way he should look, altered face, permanent smile, is more surprised to see Batman than scared. Batman in the late 80's was saved by Joker in box office too.  In four of the Batman movies from 89, 92, 95 & 97 they stuck to the formula of famous names for villains.  That got us to see Jack Nicholson, Michelle Pfeiffer, Danny DeVito, Christopher Walken, Tommy Lee Jones, Jim Carrey, Uma Thurman & Dr. Freeze - Arnold Schwarzenegger. These movies broke the jinx of poorly made Batman in TV series to big screen.  "This town needs an enima", oh yeah we all think like this about our towns... 2. Heath Ledger made the Joker more ...
