Elections in India - The onlooker's perspective

Disclaimer : I wrote a series of articles for an online magazine called Cheers between 2004-2006, am putting them out here since I found them in Lockdown 2.0 Elections in India - The onlooker's perspective ‎20 ‎April ‎2004, ‏‎10:55:18 This was the time in our childhood that we used to get weeklong holidays since our school was the polling booth from the time of its existence.  The awareness well was very limited (even to my fathers generation) about the politics of parties and governments.  Although we belonged to the "elite-educated" class we never knew who even was standing from our constituency. Things have really changed over the years I still remember the time when our young rebel Prime Minister "Rajiv Gandhi" who reduced the voting age from 21 to 18.  I immediately was eligible for voting and that increased the voting population by 20% in India.  Well look at 20% of Indian population (93 million) that time.  Quite a huge number for the benefit of Congress,...

Ganguly and Shah continue to bat at BCCI till end of January

Ganguly and Shah continue to bat at BCCI till end of January Pic taken from Times Now News The Annual General Body Meeting (AGM) of Board of Cricket Control in India (BCCI) to be held on December  24, 2020 will have Ganguly, Shah and George presiding over the engagements.  Their term has gotten over and they still sit in the chairs causing lots of raised eyebrows in BCCI.   RM Lodha Committee appointed by BCCI's Committee of Administrators spent years correcting the irregularities of BCCI regulations and had suggested a Supreme Court-mandated constitution on August 21, 2018.  But post election of Ganguly and Shah's team in October 2019, they have still not implemented the constitution, indirectly disobeying direct orders of Supreme Court. The terms of engagement BCCI earlier had knocked the door of supreme court with amends to the constitutions to ensure the Ganguly and Shah at the management crease for longer.  The hearing in the court has been const...

That was an ordinary day like any other, had a not so stressful day at shoot. So had taken out my laptop & was doing some research on 26/11 attacks. Also saw lots of tweets by RGV, movie trailers & was appreciating the craftsmanship of RGV. Performances of Nana & the boy who plays Kasab were impressive. Read a lot of positive feedback about the movie everywhere. Even I saw the small but well discussed tweet conversation & the bonding story. Was really moved by how the Maula song illustrates the madness of terror & terrorists. It got me to think about their life, why & how anything like this was possible.  Soon it was evening tea break, few more scenes were shot, pack-up was announced & was coming back home. The peaceful & usually crowd-less residential area of Raja Rajeshwa...
