Management of a Product/Brand – The Human Touch

(Article I wrote for a Marketing Journal in 2010) Management of a branding idea is not just the identity, advertising and public relations. The maximum impact can not be derived until and unless the management of the brand touches the human face. First question to be asked when planning overall management is “How good is your brand's human side?” and not “I want to build my brand”… I have lost count of the number of times I have heard this statement in the 14 years since I started my extensive interest in following brands and their stories.  And yet, as is to be expected, people have different expectations from branding and the entire process of branding. The next steps to these statements usually follow one of the following courses of action. ‘I think our identity is dated and today's consumers are young, so let's change it, and shouldn't we be thinking global?' This is good news for international brand consultants and design experts as they instantly see (...

Impressionable or impossible

(Article I wrote for a Marketing Journal in 2010) The vivid world of innovated advertising has more side effects than any other considerable good effect . How many times have you wondered and compared a character form your favourite movie to a real person you know in your personal life. If as an adult you tend to get influenced by powerful and easily accessible audio visual media surrounding you in many of its avatars like YouTube on the internet, hundreds of channels on television Out Of Home (OOH) video screens and of course movies .  The power of the media in question is more potent than what it was originally created for.  The use of audio visual media was solely for entertainment when Auguste and Louis Lumière created their very first moving images in 1895.  Information during that time when presented had enormous direct and indirect effect on people watching the moving images.  Even today the impact is same but at different levels. It’s a known fac...

Mature Extremists

There are no Mature Extremists, those who are mature are not extreme in any sense.  Likewise, those who are extreme are not mature enough to understand that being extreme is just not their cup of tea.  I have seen many extremists become mature and learn the ways of normal life, but some who are normal pretend to swing between extreme and mature making it difficult for people outside to judge.  Want to state some examples here, the most common abuse now on social media when someone speaks against Rama or against congresses’ pro Muslim tendencies, the first abuse hurled is “you are not born to a single father”.  This abuse is very common, considered as one of the most extreme abuse used by extremists who are leftists, rightists, centrists and anyone who has an opinion when opposed would use this line.  But no matter how many men copulate with a woman, there can be only one biological father.  There is no way a woman can give birth to a baby with semen of m...

Kala Soudha, what next?

Caution Long Post... PS: These are the trhee Indian Beach trees (ಹೊಂಗೆ ಮರ) planted outside Kala Soudha by me for shadow at the foyre for peopel to sit and relax during day time.  Well the post clearly is not about it. First it was Ravindra Kalakshetra, where even after prolonged protests plus assurances nothing yet has happend.  Secondly Town Hall where the rent was reduced to 80K rom whooping 1.5 Lakhs & still no takers.  Third wicket was Kala Soudha & Fourth Nrityagram, finally now NSD premice at Guru Nanak Bhavan. One thing common in all these cases, Government has overruled Arts, taken all artists for a lovely ride and left us high and dry. I can speak very well for Kala Soudha, remaining cases can be googled, well it all starts as a moment gets media momentum and dies with promises from the Government/Authority side.  Same happened to Kala Soudha too, I am not sure of getting the place to run again, hopeful that who ever gets it will do justic...

Monkey to Man

I was recently passing time like half my awake time of the day on Facebook, saw Nagendra Shaan's post on how monkey's never go bald, hence Darwin lied to us about theory of evolution. Img Courtesy: globe-views.com Now this triggerd me to think about two things which I always want to talk about, I have seen so many videos of monkey's falling asleep but waking up with a huge jerk.  This huge jerk I have observed in Zoos too, I saw that in Mysore Zoo huge gorilla & recently Panda in Hong Kong zoo.  From many readings and hours on Discovery & NGC channel, plus my endless bantering with people who are as insane as me, I am in complete agreement with Darwin.  This could even be influenced from a programme or an article I have read some time back or even Sharon Stone from Basic Instinct.  I mean this is all part of our DNA and our Basic Instinct.  Where did monkey's sleep? on the tree's right? so what used to happen when they fell asleep.. they fell ...

I The Revenant!! (I live to tell the tale)

I really have no idea what to title this, tryst with destiny, final minutes, death at doorstep, light after darkness, reincarnation, second life, how I cheated death, My Life = 1300 Rs, I The Revenant, Sea rescue... But I am sure why I am writing this, I do not want to forget anything which happened on this day. It was early hours of Sunday, December 18, 2016, day after we had Mahpeede Mahablu show in Baindur.  We wanted to go to the beach till sun rises, come back get ready and leave to Bangalore at any cost before 10 AM after breakfast at 9 AM.  So we slept late, since we were in the same beach till 11 PM.  We went in at around 6.30 AM and tried to get into the sea at point 2 in the image below.  Later we realised that the current here is too much of the Sumana or Baindur river, force of the river was enough to make the sea water less salty.  This is clear sign that the current is super strong.  Looking for a suitable location, we moved to location...
