PD's Profile


P D Sathish Chandra aka PD, is best known as an actor first and then a communications professional. After his last media stint as the Programme Director for 93.5 Red FM in Karnataka, he is now full time into acting in the sitcom Panduranga Vittala on Zee Kannada. He has been involved in all forms of performing acts, in movies (Kutty Srank - winner of 7 national awards, Minugu, Prem Ka Game, Aa Dinagalu etc.) and is instantly recognised as the comedian from the TV sitcom Panduranga Vittala and for his other stints in serials like Gali Gali Sim Sim, Yakhingadtiro etc. He also ran a spoof news show for Public TV called Vaaranna for four months.  But his first love, theatre, takes centre stage. He has acted in over 50 plays in Kannada, English, Hindi, Marathi & Bengali. He has directed seven plays so far and is the director of the newest performing space in Bangalore, Kala Soudha. His Trust and theatre group Pradarshana Kala Samsthe or Pra.Ka.Sam is currently into promoting youth in theatre and getting newer audiences to come and watch a production. His modelling experience ranges from TV spots, voice overs to hoardings. He was also a radio jockey (RJ) with Radio One for a year hosting a real time retro show.

His experience in performing arts dates back to his college days when he played an active role in theatre. Slowly his interest grew into passion and he was into mainline theatre stream with his group Fourth Corner. His stand-up comedy act was revisited and he started acting in mainstream amateur theatre. He was part of the founding team of Ranga Shankara till the first year of its operations. His love for teaching started with his first job at NMKRV College for Women and still continues with Frames where he teaches theatre to aspiring actors.

A combination of his enthusiasm for performing arts and his flair for writing has resulted in PD penning many articles, scripts and poems. He had been reviewing theatre for The Times of India and continues to contribute articles related to performing arts to leading publications.

A Masters degree holder in Mass Communications, he has been actively working with his company Fourth Corner to provide communication solutions to his clients. He has also handled media relations and corporate communications before his passion took him full time to performing arts.

ಸಂಚಾರಿ ವಿಜಯ್ ಸಂಸ್ಮರಣಾ ಕಾರ್ಯಕ್ರಮ, ಚಲನಚಿತ್ರೋತ್ಸವ, ನಾಟಕೋತ್ಸವ ಸೆಪ್ಟಂಬರ್ 29, 30 ಮತ್ತು ಅಕ್ಟೋಬರ್ 1, 2022 ರಂದು ಕುವೆಂಪು ಕಲಾಮಂದಿರ ಚಿಕ್ಕಮಗಳೂರಿನಲ್ಲಿ ನಡೆದಿತ್ತು, ಆ ಕಾರ್ಯಕ್ರಮದಲ್ಲಿ ಪ್ರಕಟವಾದ ಸ್ಮ್ರತಿ ಸರಣಿಗಾಗಿ ಬರೆದ ಲೇಖನ. ಸಂವಿ ಹೇಳಿಕೊಟ್ಟ ಪಾಠಗಳು ಸಂವಿ ಅಂದರೆ ಸಂವಿಧಾನ ಅಲ್ಲ, ಅದು ನಮ್ಮ ಸಂಚಾರಿ ವಿಜಯ್ಗೆ ನಾನು ಇಟ್ಟ ಹೆಸರು. ಸಂವಿ ವಿಧಾನಗಳು ಬಲು ಅಪರೂಪ. ನನ್ನ ಜೊತೆಯ ಒಡನಾಟ ಬಲು ಕಡಿಮೆ ಎನ್ನಬಹುದು ಕೆಲವೇ ವರ್ಷಗಳ ಪರಿಚಯವಾದರೂ ಬಾಲ್ಯ ಸ್ನೇಹಿತ ಅನ್ನೋ ಅಷ್ಟು ಆಪ್ತ. ನಮ್ಮ ಜೊತೆ ನಮ್ಮವನಾಗಿ ಇರೋ ಈ ವಿಜಯ್ ಎಲ್ಲರಿಗೂ ಮಾದರಿಯಾಗಿದ್ದ.  ನಮ್ಮ ತಂಡದ ಜೊತೆಗೆ ನಾಟಕ ಮಾಡಿದಾಗ ಸಾರ್ ನನಗೆ culture shock ಆಗಿದೆ ಅಂದ. ಏಕೆ ಎಂದರೆ ನಮ್ಮ ನಾಟಕದ ಸಂಭ್ರಮ ನಾಟಕ ಸ್ಟೇಜ್ ಮೇಲೆ ತರೋದು ಒಂದೇ ಅಲ್ಲ, ರಿಹರ್ಸಲ್ ನಲ್ಲಿ ನಡೆಯೋ ಫೈನ್ ಕಲೆಕ್ಷನ್ ಮತ್ತೆ ಬೊಂಡಾ ಬಜ್ಜಿಗಳು, ಕಾಸ್ಟ್ ಪಾರ್ಟಿಗಳು, ರಸ ಸಂಜೆಗಳು, ಇದೆಲ್ಲಾ ಏನ್ ಸಾರ್ ಅಂತ ಆಶ್ಚರ್ಯದಿಂದ ನೋಡುತ್ತಿದ್ದ.  ಎಲ್ಲವನ್ನೂ ಒಂದೇ ತರಹ, ಎಲ್ಲರನ್ನೂ ಒಂದೇ ತರಹ ನೋಡುತ್ತಿದ್ದ ಸಂವಿ ನಮಗೆ ಕಲಿಸಿದ ಮೊದಲ ಪಾಠ. ಕಲಾ ಸೌಧದ ಹೊರಗಿನ ಪೌರಕಾರ್ಮಿಕರಿಂದ, ಸಿಕ್ಕಾಪಟ್ಟೆ ಫೇಮಸ್ ಆದ ನಟರಜೊತೆ ಅದೇ ಆದರ, ವಿನಯದಿಂದ ಮಾತಾಡುತ್ತಿದ್ದ. ಒಮ್ಮೆ ನಮ್ಮ ಸಿಬ್ಬಂದಿ ಯಾರದ್ದೋ ಜೊತೆ ಜಗಳ ಮಾಡಿಕೊಂಡಾಗ ಎಲ್ಲಿಂದಲೋ ಬಂದ ಅಜಾತ ಶತ್ರು ಸಂವಿ ಇಬ್ಬರಿಗೂ ಸಮಾಧಾನ ...

I The Revenant!! (I live to tell the tale)

I really have no idea what to title this, tryst with destiny, final minutes, death at doorstep, light after darkness, reincarnation, second life, how I cheated death, My Life = 1300 Rs, I The Revenant, Sea rescue... But I am sure why I am writing this, I do not want to forget anything which happened on this day. It was early hours of Sunday, December 18, 2016, day after we had Mahpeede Mahablu show in Baindur.  We wanted to go to the beach till sun rises, come back get ready and leave to Bangalore at any cost before 10 AM after breakfast at 9 AM.  So we slept late, since we were in the same beach till 11 PM.  We went in at around 6.30 AM and tried to get into the sea at point 2 in the image below.  Later we realised that the current here is too much of the Sumana or Baindur river, force of the river was enough to make the sea water less salty.  This is clear sign that the current is super strong.  Looking for a suitable location, we moved to location...

My Article on Kannada Theatre Scene

Kannada Theatre Scene Ninth Century AD: King Nrupatunga wrote Kavirajamarga in the matured script of Kannada. It is the first recognised literary work by any author in Kannada history. Being a set of poems it was recited to people at numerous literary gatherings. Hence, we could also categorise it as the first script in Kannada literature. Kannada theatre has seen a huge wave of changes from the times of Jaina Works, Vachana Literature, Dasa Sahitya till today's Modern Kannada. When you go to the new look Ravindra Kalakshetra with improved interiors and exteriors and interact with the Kannada theatre activists, you get the same look and feel, as it was many years back. You still get to see the old scripts, which are, staged every week and meetings/readings going on in the Samsa Open Theatre.
