Short Poem

I wrote this poem in 1992, for some unknown woman and I just found a piece of this sheet which had few words of a letter written to me by that girl. I did not want to translate it but most of you guys would not understand what it means since I wrote it in Kannada. Here it goes in Kannada first...

Hi my new friend

Im glad to see that you have decided to reply,I see it is very short letter.

It is all right because you are astonished to get my letter.

I want you to know that I have only good intentions and I have not any secrets.

The thing is that I will work in your country for three months or so and

I would like to meet a nice man to fall in love or just be closest friends.

I don't want to live in Russia because I have not any chances here,

it is hardly possible to explain from first time but I want you to know my plans.

I will work in any shop, bar or restaurant the agency that i am going through will suggest me some locations.

It will be my choice in the end as to what option to go for.

So I will have a simple work till I improve my English. And I can choose any

town of your area,agency will only help me to get a visa and all travel documents + some suggested placed to work in.

My best friend last year met the man from the USA when she worked there for three months, too.

She had two jobs. From morning till 4 pm she worked in amusement park and after it she worked as a waitress in some bar till midnight.

She was very tired of course but made very good money there.

It is special programm for young people who wants to work abroad and I think it is the right way for me ,

I am lost here,and I think that I look pretty enough to find a better place .I want to repeat the same way,it is

only my chance to meet a nice man.I want to work in USA or in Europe or any

nice country. I am full of plans and different dreams and I want to share my

life with good man because I'm also full of love and tenderness,I know that

I am not so beautiful like Hollywood Princess but I do hope to meet my Prince and

I am sure he will be not be disappoined to meet me in the real life! This is why I am going to go through the same way.

Well,I will close this letter and I do hope to get your reply.

I will leave russia in two weeks or so (I can't tell you everything exactly

right now) and I would like tobe sure that I have the man who waits for me there. I will work all day and I want to find a man to spend all free time

together to get to know each other better.if you have any interest to meet me I will be more than happy to meet you too.

At first I think I have to say that I am new in internet and I have only good intentions.

you should know that I am not very good writer in english, please be patient to read my

messages and see many mistakes. to be fair I do not know what you want to know about me, in principle

I am usual girl. I think I should tell you about me, my interests, tastes and hobbies. I think I will tell you

about things I want to know about you and you will know my future questions.

I am 25 years old, my birthday is December, 25, 1983. I so much do not want to get older, when I can see old women I am

getting crazy to think that it is my future .I do all the best to keep my youth and I keep my body well. In spite of all

difficultes here I am trying to be in good condition and I do a lot of exercises to be in good shape!

I am about 172 cm tall (5.6) and my weight is about 52 kg. I've been told I look well enough,

and I think that all women have own beaty. I have never been married and I don ` t have children.

I have one youngest sisters and it is great problem for us because we have only two rooms flat.you cannot imagine what does it mean to be born

in small town in Russia, there are not any chances to live well, to get a good job. All young people leave towns to search

great luck in big cities but nobody waits for them there. I want to leave Russia, I know it sounds ugly but I know that I

will be lost here like many young girls before me. It is not place to grow children and have stable future. I want to meet my right man.

I think in future I can work as fitness trainer I have a certificate. My mother is my great problem too, she has a great dream to see me

married and she wants to make me happy but I think it is only my business I am not a little child. She tells me every day

that I should get married very soon... To be fair I am not sure I am able to explain all in first message I

want to say so much! I just want you to know that I am not afraid to work, I am fairly goal

oriented and I am sure you will be not disappoined to meet me in real life. I am going to spend three months

abroad to work in any good place, agency promises to help me because it is only the way I can leave Russia. I will have all documents

to travel in a few days and i will travel to moscow then, from moscow I will travel to you and they ask me about name of the city i am going to work,

if you do not mind to meet me please tell me the name of your city and nearest international airport! I will book my flight from moscow!

I think it would be so great to meet my love and stay there forever. I know that it is not so easy like I think but I think it is possible that I meat my real love.

I want to love and to be loved I want to build our own happiness, only me and my man there. I do not smoke, I tried to smoke when I was younger.

I may have a glass of red dry vine, sometimes it helps to relax. I try to take care of my body and face. I know it is all I have.

My soul may have any itnterst for you later, I thinkso. I am not a little girl and I know that at first almost all men look

at body, legs and face. God created males such persons. Well, I think I am lost in my letter, I am not sure you

understand my goals, please feel free to ask.

I live in Russia, town Shelekhov, Cosmonauts street 5, flat 7, it is near big city Irkutsk.

My town is rather far from Moscow. Moscow is a capital of my country. I want you to reply if you understand my mind, my intentions, my soul, if

not please reply too, I will continue my searching. Well, I will close this letter, I think you are tired to read

it.and If you think that I should write shorter letters please tell me. I write from internet cafe in

Irkutsk because there are not cafes and possibility to use internet in my small town, we have 4 digital phone number and we

cannot call abroad. And it is very dear now, in conditions of crisis. Even to call in any big town here in Russia I have to order the call in advance.and I would like to say

please do not worry if I keep silence sometimes I have no time to travel, it is about 25 minutes by bus from my town till Irkutsk

Please tell me more about you, your tastes, likes and dislikes .also I have a few impotant questions do you

like strong drinks too much? can you be very drunk? very ofthen? can you be rude with women?

I am so glad to see your letter again,I think I am a lucky girl to meet such man and I will do my best to meet you in real life!

you know I can work in any city of your area because it is free choice and agency only helps me to get

only travel documents and ticket, and I do hope that we will like each other and now I have the destination.

The agency will also suggest some places to work in. I do hope I have met my right man!you know I have told you before one

of my friend worked abroad last year and have met right man,now they live there and they are going to

marry. by the way now they are arranging the trip to Russia,(he wants to meet her parents and friends)

I think if I feel that you are my dream and you have the same feelings we could think about our future together.

I hate our long winters it seems to me they will never end. I hate lies and unfaithfulness.

My honey ! it is me,can you believe I am in Moscow. I can't believe ,it was wonderful flight and they gave red vine in plane, wow,I have never tried

such tasty one!!!!!

I went the bus up to the Subway from the airport .In Subway long went, it was so is delightful

I was in travel agency today, but my documents are not ready yet, it will be ready tomorrow.

I will go to travel agency again to get all info about my trip. And of course, when I will get it - I will send it to you!

It is such great city and it takes a few hours to travel from one end to other.

Such a great city it is. I have no words to explain. you can't imagine how great Moscow is,to be fair I wouldn't like to

live here,a lot of cars,people , voice and pollution.Ugly traffic and people with crazy eyes.

When I get off plane in airport Moscow policeman asked about passport and he looked at me like I am any enemy,

I think all people here are a little crazy at terrorism.Life here in Moscow is expensive. I was going through some shops today

and it is much more expensive than in our town. Food and all the general things. It is the same country but different prices, what a great change.

I think people living in Moscow are very cautious ,I think so. But I think that I have done my choice and to be fair I don't want to

live here,it is not the city of my dreams. you know I am not coward I am not afraid I know it is my chance to meet

kind man .I do hope I am right. and I think you are too kind to make any bad things I feel it.

Striking STROKING Commentary

Yesterday after a long time I had time and mood enough to watch the test match between Newzealand and India and got to witness one of the most funniest commentary ever by Mr.

 Arun Lal who had a shorter stint with Indian National Cricket Team than Antara Mali in Bollywood (just watching MR ya MISS swappyily).  

He and Charu Shamra were dissecting the NZ innings and Mr. Lal kept on blabbering about STROKING it in the right places by the first looks of Indian innings.  I shook myself up from the breakfast I was eating thinking that I heard something wrong or the channel has shifted to some channel not so U rated.  Again Mr. Lal continues to give gyan to Mr. Charu about STROKING.

This was just the beginning of my hysterical laughter sessions.  Mr. Lal went on talking about STROKING it there STROKING it here.  STROKING the right ball, STROKING it in the gaps, STROKING it in between the fielders.  Thank god he did not STROKE the “LEATHER BALL”.  STROKING what was mentioned finally by Mr. Lal and my laughter had woken up the entire 

apartment am sure he said “people should learn stroking the ball into gaps from him (referring to Vettori).  When the camera 

moved to Charu he was visibly in all smiles I don’t know whether he was happy to hear about Stroking men or does he belong to Karan Johar

 happy and gay club or is he doubting Mr. Lal might also belong there?

Finally the stroking had to come to an end when Charu had to end the show because of innings start.  Well I for the first time enjoyed watching commentary.  But otherwise they just talk about what’s god damn obvious.  If the batsmen connects the ball and shoots it outside the boundary rope they say in chorus Great shot, great timing, what beautiful balance, grace, he is greatest batsmen of our times.  They dig up his history of great innings and scores and keep mentioning it.  They will show you something called the wagon wheel which shows where he has “STROKED” the ball.  With lines indicating where the ball has met the rope or the boundaries of nice STROKING.  And other building like structures which will help you see how much he has STROKED in his last few innings. 

Whoever has played minimum gully cricket know that if you swing and connect it’s a score if you don’t its either out or another chance to take a swing at the ball.

The other side of the coin is when he misses the ball or gives away the wicket.  Then they turn their attention to the man with three leather balls (pun intended) and start his praise rolling.  They will tell him the ball was pitched in the right place and the batsmen could not STROKE it in any way what so ever.  They will show you the bowlers’ record of beating the batsmen or his wicket getting statistics and the pitch with lots of small balls showing the length of the pitched ball.

The self praise and technology help should only better the commentary not dump us with information we will never even remember or use or even interesting.  If its wine why not serve it in new bottle atleast…

What is the need for them where are the smart commentators gone? Why do they tell us what we already know? They think we are dumb? Why can’t all be little entertaining like Mr. Lal today and talk about stroking.  But before I end I have once nice commentator to remember Mr. Henry Blofeld who genuinely admitted his limited amount of cricket knowledge but I thoroughly loved his “earring” comments during a certain Dubai cricket tournament.  Hope to see some more sensible commentary around.

 

First ever Marriage by Ram Sene

Jai Shri Seeta samet Jai Ramchandra dev (Hail Lord Seeta and Hail Lord Ram)... Many wishes to all in love and to all of you a very joyful Valentines Day...

With all the calamity of pink chaddi's and what not, I just figured that the first ever marriage done by Ram Sene (not led by Mr. Mutalik) was of Mr. Ram and Ms. Sita.  Well those who talk about love being an offence and show of love in public a bigger offence have a lot of stories to learn from our mythology.  I think I should mention the name of Lord Krishna who was known for being an outright exhibitionist of love.

There are many other instances which I can think of like birth of Karna, Hanuman's son Mritsanjaneya, Lakshmana and Shoorphanakhi list is endless and I have already had numerous debates with my acquaintances about each of this case.

But I think what Hindutva has preached from years is the concept of freedom.  Hindutwa in technical terms is Open Source where as other book based religions (no offence what so ever) are like Windows where only the things written in book are followed.  Hindutva encourages freedom of expression and that's why we see god everywhere dogs, cows, books, wood and even a sword.

Left to us if we follow open source or or windows but just want to say Live, Love and let Live...

Audition for a Short Play

As part of Fourth Corner Productions we are doing a seven minute long Short Play for a corporate.  On their annual day celebrations in Chennai on Saturday 14 Feb, 2009 and in Bangalore on Sunday 22 Feb, 2009.  I need six actors 3 male and 3 female for this.  Will also pay the artists but not too much but enough to be happy.  Also the uniqueness of this production has inspired me to turn it into a short movie later on with little more additions.  Experience is not a must but command over English language is since clarity of speech is all I am looking at. Respect & Responsibility theatre adaptation presentation by Fourth Corner

Concept

• To use six professional artists to portray six characters to address the Go Green campaign
  
• The script will be drafted with complete association with the clients
  
• Ten 10 second lines for the six characters making it six minutes
  
• One minute for announcements
  
• Seven minutes performance 
  

Objectives

• To make the attendee realize and act towards going green campaign
  
• To make him realize his role in the circle of life
  
• How important it is for him to start there and start now
  
• Who to contact if he wants to contribute
  
• How can he contribute and what can he do to help save what's left of Earth to his future generations 
  

Progression

• There would be darkness to begin with prelude of a power breakdown
  
• Spot lights start coming up on the actors as they start speaking
  
• Actors will have lapel mikes helping them to be audible
  
• The conversation will move around in circles and randomly catching attention of each member in the hall
  

Positioning

• The artists would be on a pedestal at least 6 ft. tall
  
• This not only gains attention but also helps people to notice them
  
• Its human hereditary to look up in distress or when they seek divine intervention
  
• Also gives the audience element of shock which is most wanted for the performance
  
• The circular positioning also indicates circle of life, chain reaction etc.
  

Character 1: A girl or a Baby

• Who would first start with a complaint of raising water in the bath tub 
  
• Who is least bothered about what others are saying
  
• Her script to have solid contact with young and old parents at the venue
  

Character 2: Angry Disgusted Man

• Who wants the program to get on with
  
• Who every youngster in the hall will recognize with
  
• Who will be talking about what's on their mind like Dinner or Awards etc.
  
• His language and presentation will be harsher than normal
  

Character 3: Woman in formals

• She is the Siemens prototype
  
• Who talks about most of the messages going out on the SIPS Go Green campaign
  
• She would be presenting herself and her script in a polite and polished manner
  
• As pleasing as it could be
  

Character 4: The holy man

• Who actually is giving solution to all the raised problems and issues of the other five characters
  
• He stands in a pleasing pose and has a mild bass tone
  
• He is the only man whom other characters pay attention to
  

Character 5: An alien

• He is threatening to take over the planet
  
• He is telling all of us how we have misused the planet
  
• He is also informing the audience what causes what reaction
  
• How all the present in the hall have contributed to global warming
  

Character 6: A doctor / scientist 

• Who is giving tangible data and explanation to global warming
  
• His job is to provide sensible and understandable information to all present
  
• His data will also have proximate interpretation

The encounter in a basement

One day long back in history there was a guy called Pritam, who was famous for his photographs of Page 3 and the topper of the who's who list of Bangalore theatre scene, and who used to smile at me when I used to visit Koshies and I first thought he works there since there was no time in those days that he was not present when I visited there.  We did speak about theatre some times and he finally called me one day.  We did a play called Khel for which I got critical acclamation from people from the who's who ciricle.  Recently he woke up suddenly and over few glasses of rum told me that he has started making movies.  We took this up as a project for his videos and shot in basemen of Alliance Française.  We used lights of my car and Pritams newly adopted baby a sofisticated camera imported from some posh country.  There were three things which got hurt during making of this movie Amjad, Camera & my Car.

It recently got selected for a film festival online and I want all of you to read Pritam's mail down below and VOTE for it.

PRITAMS MAIL TO ALL:

Hi all,

Our short video titled 'the encounter in a basement' has been selected for screening at the babelgum online film festival 2

P D Sathish Chandra, Amjad Prawej and I got together to try and develop a piece for video based on an earlier production of ours called 'khel'. We talked a bit, shifted context, Sathish sat down with someone from crime branch and then we started improvising with existing ideas. Unscripted and still quite sketchy, we decided to just go and shoot whatever we had, even though we didn't have a clue beyond a couple of scenes. On looking at the footage, I didn't think anything would emerge but, nevertheless, sat down to an edit. Many many many hours/days/weeks later I did manage to put something together, and a few avatars later, 'the encounter in a basement emerged'. It was still a little sketchy and, in retrospect, needed proper scripting, time etc but it was nice to see a beginning, middle and end.

babelgum is an online portal for video - fiction, documentary, animation etc - and this is the second fest they're doing. Being online, they don't have the limitations that traditional fests have in terms of time and space, and hence are able to screen a really large number of films. Which of course worked very well in our favor. Screening started on the 2nd of Feb and goes on to the 2nd of April. The fest is competitive and is decided by public vote though I have no idea how people are going to watch over 600 (yes, 600 short films spread across 4 categories selected from over 1700 entries!) and come to any conclusion. I'm sure there will be mayhem but I'm equally sure it'll be a lot of fun. I'm actually looking forward to watching all the stuff that people have sent in. After screening and voting, there's a shortlisting done based on public vote and winners are determined by a jury headed by Spike Lee from this shortlist.

So, that's that. We don't have any illusions about what our chances might be as far as the competition is concerned, but this has kicked us enough to start the next short film. And I guess, in the final analysis, that's the only thing that really matters.

Emotional Atyaachar

Now with the work I do listening to songs and selecting them to be air played has become quite monotonous.  I have some how developed a deaf ear for songs which keep coming on to my desk.  There are very rare moments I get to open them and EA (Emotional Atyaachaar) from the movie Dev D was one such song.  The brass band of marriage processions which is part of most of our north Indian marriages (most because I did not get married the brass band way) and now a days slipping in our south Indian weddings too.  That sound has an immediate connect to something important to all of us.

The term Atyaachaar means Rape in our modern day to day dialect.  But the thought of it being used in a Bollywood song with such power was unthinkable.  Anurag Kashyap who directs the movie too has shared a fantastic story about this song - http://passionforcinema.com/devd-emosional-atyachar/  The influences he has shared are eye openers too.  The slightest thought of Atyaachaar gives us many imaginations. Its one of the few words in the dictionary which can give you goosebumps at any given time of the day.

I at work and with friends have used EA to the core like with my friend who was cribbing that I did not call when I promised to return the call - I told her bachhe ko maar degi kyaaaa??? EA teri band karr.... To a colleague who was showing who is more stingy - don't EA me all right? just pay the F**** bill....  With a drunk friend.. Next time do not drink please because your EA reaches the next level once you get drunk.... etc etc etc... Uses and abuses of EA is what made me a crazy fan of the term EA..

No one is spared of EA, all of us are going through this shit every darn day.  EA starts at home Mother telling you that you should stop smoking or start eating on time.  Wife's - Should I say anything about this?? Kids - Who demand with a cute face from chocolates to getting married to their own choice, Maids - who want more salary.... Watchman even the street dog who wags his tail when he needs bread.

EA has many faces at offices like the watchman who salutes at the beginning of the month and the parking assistant.  The office assistant who blackmails you for leave because he brings you lunch everyday.  EA is everywhere home, street, office and even in your dreams too.  How many times you do self EA to self pity to go have an extra peg or one for the road drink or even a smoke.

This song after a long time changed my mood from a total listen to everything to listen to only EA.  If you support anti piracy thing and want to drive in the pirates of piracy industry then go buy this CD every song in this movie is an original.  Its now a musical and if you really have a wide range of taste of music I advice you buy yourself this and I promise this is no EA for you to buy it.  Remeber the brass band version is what I am talking about not the rock version.
