Intro
For over three decades, I have believed that culture is not built by performances alone, but by the spaces, institutions and communities that make those performances possible."
From theatre to cinema, from radio studios to cultural institutions, my journey has never followed a straight line. Every role I have taken on—actor, director, writer, trainer, broadcaster or organiser—has grown from the same belief: stories have the power to transform people, but only when artists are given spaces to create them.
While I have had the privilege of working across theatre, film, television, radio and public speaking, my greatest satisfaction has come from building platforms where creativity can flourish. Whether through founding Prakasam, creating theatre festivals, mentoring young artists or managing performance spaces, I have always found myself asking the same question:
"How can we leave the arts better than we found them?"
That question continues to guide everything I do.
MONDAY - WHO I AM
Theatre did not simply become my profession—it became the lens through which I learned to understand people, relationships and society.
Beginning my journey in the early 1990s, I was drawn not only to the excitement of performance but to the remarkable ability of theatre to bring strangers together in a shared emotional experience. Over the years, that curiosity evolved into a lifelong commitment to storytelling in its many forms.
Although my work has expanded into cinema, television, radio, writing and cultural leadership, theatre has remained my creative home. Every medium I have explored has added a new perspective, but every lesson eventually found its way back to the stage.
More than three decades later, I continue to see myself as a student of theatre—someone who believes there is always another story waiting to be discovered and another artist waiting for an opportunity.
TUESDAY - BUILDING CULTURE
If there is one aspect of my work that defines my journey, it is the desire to build rather than simply participate.
Founding Prakasam was never about creating another theatre group. It was about creating a space where artists, audiences and ideas could meet, collaborate and grow. That philosophy later extended into initiatives such as Kala Krushi, KH Kala Soudha, RangaAayama and numerous cultural collaborations that sought to strengthen Bengaluru's performing arts ecosystem.
Over the years, my work has involved producing plays, curating festivals, managing performance spaces, conducting workshops and bringing together artists from different backgrounds. While every production eventually closes, institutions have the ability to nurture creativity long after individual performances are forgotten.
Looking back, I feel my greatest contribution has not been a particular play or performance, but the communities and platforms that continue to support artists long after the curtain falls.
WEDNESDAY - THE ACTOR
Acting remains the most personal part of my creative life.
The discipline, spontaneity and emotional honesty demanded by theatre have shaped every performance I have given, whether on stage or before a camera.
Over the years I have appeared in theatre productions, feature films, television serials, commercials and digital media, working with directors and artists from diverse creative backgrounds. Each medium has demanded a different craft, yet they all begin with the same question:
"What truth does this character carry?"
For me, acting has never been about visibility. It has always been about understanding another human being for a brief moment and inviting an audience to do the same.
THURSDAY - THE STORYTELLER
Stories have found me through many mediums.
Sometimes they have appeared as plays waiting to be directed. Sometimes they have become scripts, radio conversations, public talks or written reflections.
Working in radio taught me the intimacy of voice. Writing taught me the discipline of clarity. Directing taught me to trust collaboration more than control.
Together, these experiences reinforced something theatre had already shown me—that storytelling is less about the medium and more about the connection it creates.
Regardless of whether I am writing, directing or speaking, I continue to approach every story with the same curiosity that first drew me towards theatre.
FRIDAY - THE THESPIAN
One of the greatest privileges of my journey has been the opportunity to learn from remarkable people. Mentoring has become my way of passing those lessons forward.
Through workshops, seminars, lectures and long-term collaborations, I have worked with aspiring actors, students, educators and theatre practitioners, sharing not only techniques but also conversations about discipline, collaboration and the responsibilities that accompany creative work.
I have often found that the most rewarding moments do not happen during performances. They happen when a young artist discovers confidence, when a student begins asking better questions or when a participant returns years later as a collaborator.
Those moments remind me that the true measure of a cultural initiative is not the applause it receives, but the people it encourages.
SATURDAY - TODAY
My journey continues much as it began—with curiosity.
Today my work continues to move between theatre, film, writing, public speaking and cultural initiatives. I remain deeply interested in building collaborations, creating new work and exploring how the performing arts can remain relevant within an increasingly changing world.
- While the mediums continue to evolve, my purpose has remained remarkably constant.
- To tell meaningful stories.
- To build meaningful spaces.
- And to leave behind institutions and communities that will continue to inspire long after individual performances have ended.
