Monkey to Man

I was recently passing time like half my awake time of the day on Facebook, saw Nagendra Shaan's post on how monkey's never go bald, hence Darwin lied to us about theory of evolution. Img Courtesy: globe-views.com Now this triggerd me to think about two things which I always want to talk about, I have seen so many videos of monkey's falling asleep but waking up with a huge jerk.  This huge jerk I have observed in Zoos too, I saw that in Mysore Zoo huge gorilla & recently Panda in Hong Kong zoo.  From many readings and hours on Discovery & NGC channel, plus my endless bantering with people who are as insane as me, I am in complete agreement with Darwin.  This could even be influenced from a programme or an article I have read some time back or even Sharon Stone from Basic Instinct.  I mean this is all part of our DNA and our Basic Instinct.  Where did monkey's sleep? on the tree's right? so what used to happen when they fell asleep.. they fell ...

I The Revenant!! (I live to tell the tale)

I really have no idea what to title this, tryst with destiny, final minutes, death at doorstep, light after darkness, reincarnation, second life, how I cheated death, My Life = 1300 Rs, I The Revenant, Sea rescue... But I am sure why I am writing this, I do not want to forget anything which happened on this day. It was early hours of Sunday, December 18, 2016, day after we had Mahpeede Mahablu show in Baindur.  We wanted to go to the beach till sun rises, come back get ready and leave to Bangalore at any cost before 10 AM after breakfast at 9 AM.  So we slept late, since we were in the same beach till 11 PM.  We went in at around 6.30 AM and tried to get into the sea at point 2 in the image below.  Later we realised that the current here is too much of the Sumana or Baindur river, force of the river was enough to make the sea water less salty.  This is clear sign that the current is super strong.  Looking for a suitable location, we moved to location...

Pet Concepts

Well I know that I will get more brick backs than pats on my back for writing this. But these are just concepts in my head most of the time when the discussion on pets comes up.  These are only and purely my opinion and you can hold me responsible for the black and white you see here.  Have put my thoughts in three concepts, the pet, double standards and selective compassion.  Read on... Concept 1: The Pet I am totally against the concept of a pet.  Animals are supposed to do what they want to do and when they want to do.  Pets are not free animals, pets are like dolls of a kid, they get to follow the routine of the owner.  They will get to eat when owner comes back from work, they get to go out when the owner decides it's time for the animal to go out.  Controlled life is not defined for animals, see what Oxford Dictionary states while defining animals "They are typically able to move about, though this ability is sometimes restricted to a partic...

Bangalore from my memories...

I shared these memories of my Bangalore for Nirlek, for his photography exhibition, PORTRAITS OF A CITY (June 9th-25th 2015). He had asked me to share a memory/story about why you consider yourself a Bengalurean and what you connect with in the city to call yourself one. I wrote these... People: Cultures and Communities  The lovely people of Gandhi Bazar in Basavanagudi who have grown me up in many ways.  They taught me that it is wrong to ogle at women, give them your chair in the bus or in the park, help the old people to cross the road, buy a stranger food if he was begging and play gully cricket with children on the road.  Not to pelt stones at dogs or to shoo away grazing cows & to follow rules laid by the neighborhood.  Respect your elders & teachers, to imply what is good with your peers and youngsters. Place: Public and Private spaces, Parks and Natural Heritage Lalbagh and in general the huge tree which is on the way to the gla...

The “THEY”

The “THEY” This word they was as normal as its other cousins like the, then, there, that etc.  But it gains sudden significance because of the usage amongst adults, they imbibe the same into the impressionable kids around them.  The kids then grow up to realise the potency of the term THEY and will then start using that everywhere, at work, at home, with kids, lover, wife, husband everyone uses THEY. What is so special about THEY? Intriguing right? Well just remember when was the last time you used the word THEY.  This is a pretty tough one, I used THEY day before yesterday talking about the corrupt officials at the registration office and how my house katha with everything right in terms of paperwork and documents.  I exactly knew the THEY but I still used THEY generalising the whole system and all office bearers at the registrar’s office no matter if they were corrupt or no.  THEY form our belief system, religion, class, creed, politics, governmen...

Born in the times of brass taps

Brass Tap I was recently forced to go shopping with my plumber to buy some taps, pipes and fixtures for the new wash basins installed at home.  When I went to the shop, the shop owner had some excellence award from some company for sales he had done.  I could not help but notice the similarity of the design of the tap to the tap we used to use when we were kids. My childhood was in a joint family, we were 21 people in a house which was less than 12 square meters of carpet area.  It had tiled roof, we had rats, squirrels commonly wandering amongst us.  We had a backyard which was typically used to store all the firewood for heating water etc.  Although we had a water heater or boiler in place which used to run on electricity it was too expensive for us to run on that.  Our house backyard was a famous playground for us cousins post the play time outside of the house. My father was the youngest son of my grandparents.  That made me an uncle the d...
